These days an income is something you can't live without--or within.Tom Wilson

This memorial website was created to remember John "Jack" W. Paine who was born in Peoria, Illinois on February 28, 1928 and passed away on September 17, 2008. He will live forever in our memories and hearts.

John “Jack” W. Paine, 80, of Peoria, passed away at 8:41 a.m. on Wednesday, September 17, 2008, at the Lutheran Home in Peoria.

Jack was born on February 28, 1928 in Peoria, a son of Dr. James Claude and Florence E. (Miner) Paine. He married Valerie J. (Hansen) Keel on September 14, 1971 in Peoria. She survives.

He is also survived by his daughter, Colleen S. (Scott) Dunham of Peoria; sons, James A. (Elena) Paine of Laguna Hills, CA and Robert G. (Tina) Paine of East Peoria; stepdaughter, Janelle M. Keel Grammer of Racine, WI; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

His parents and two brothers, James and Elwood Paine, preceded him in death.

In his younger years, Jack was active in the Boy Scouts and earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He graduated from Woodruff High School’s Class of 1946 and was their top War Bond seller that year.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving with the 88th Infantry Division Blue Devils in the occupation of Italy in post-World War II.

In 1951, he graduated from the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Pharmacy. He was the owner and operator of Jacks Pharmacy on Main Street in Peoria, until his retirement. In the early 1970’s, he served as President of the American Cancer Society’s Peoria Regional Office.

Jack enjoyed golfing, bow hunting, fishing, playing board games on family game night, watching St. Louis Cardinal’s Baseball and collecting stamps, pocket knives, coins…and he kept just about everything else. His favorite song was “The World is Round”, but he also enjoyed listening to the Big Bands, Oldies, Frank Sinatra and Jim Croce.

Jack loved spending his time in his recliner, playing ping-pong and pool, attending Cornstalk and shows at Illinois Central College and being with his family. He will be remembered as a dependable, trustworthy “Jack” of all trades.

Jack was a member of First English Lutheran Church in Peoria, where a Memorial Service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 20, 2008, with Dr. James Lillie officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church. A private interment will be held at Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria.

Memorial contributions may be made to First English Lutheran Church, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Jack was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be missed very much.

Funeral services have been entrusted with Clary Funeral Home in Peoria.

I know since I moved to TX I wasn't there for the hardest times my grandfather has ever gone through.  I was there for all the good times in life being a grandpa to his grand and great grandchildren.  He was an incredible man.  Seeing him in such a horrible state when I was home before my wedding in August, I've accepted that he is in a BETTER place and I'm very happy of that.  I love you Grandpa with all my heart and you will be missed by many.  kisses and hugs!
Bud Stobaugh friend and husband of his cousin September 19, 2008

Val: It is with sincere sympathy that I write this. As you know Jeannie passed on just about 16 months ago. I miss her as you will miss Jack. He was quite a man, and very special in the eyes of Norma Jeanne Stobaugh (Paine).

I am very sorry that I will not be able to attend the services as I will be out of town on that date. I do though wish to convey my condolences to both you, and Jacks' children. The slide show was very nice and I think I picked out some of his children.

With sincere thoughts to you all,

C. "Bud" Stobaugh
